About The Recall

Some straight forward answers to some common questions about the recall.

1. “Does this cost taxpayers money?”

No. The recall process is part of Alberta law and administered through Elections Alberta’s regular operations. Signing the petition does not cost taxpayers anything. If a recall led to a by-election, that would be paid for the same way every election is — through the normal democratic process.

2. “Why recall Myles McDougall now?”

Because many residents in Calgary–Fish Creek feel they aren’t being represented. People have shared concerns about being ignored or dismissed, votes that harm public services and affordability, unprofessional behaviour in meetings, and feeling unheard or disrespected. Recall is the legal way to hold an MLA accountable during their term.

3. “What happens to the seat if the recall is successful?”

The MLA’s seat becomes vacant, and a by-election is called. Voters then choose who fills the seat. Signing the petition does not elect anyone or support any party.

4. “Is this legal / allowed?”

Yes — completely. Alberta’s Recall Act outlines the rules, timelines, signature requirements, and Elections Alberta oversees the entire process. We follow every rule exactly as written.

5. “What has he done wrong?”

Common concerns from residents include lack of representation, voting against community interests, and unprofessional behaviour (talking over people, raising his voice, leaving constituents upset). The recall is about accountability and representation, not political parties.

6. “What does signing mean for me?”

Signing simply means you want the community to have a chance at a by-election. Signing does NOT support any party, choose a replacement MLA, make your name public, cost you money, or force you to vote a certain way. It only signals you want a choice.

7. “Why should I sign if a recall probably won’t win?”

Every signature sends a clear message that representation matters. A strong signature count pressures future MLAs to listen more closely and take constituents seriously.

8. “Is this going to cause trouble or division?”

No. The recall process is peaceful, democratic, and designed to let citizens express themselves respectfully. We don’t argue or pressure anyone. People decide for themselves.

9. “Who WOULD BE running if he’s recalled?”

Nobody knows yet — that happens after a by-election is called. Signing the petition does not support or oppose any party or candidate.

10. “Who’s behind the recalls? Is this foreign money or some attempt to overthrow the government?”

No. This recall is organized entirely by local residents of Calgary–Fish Creek using a legal, Elections Alberta–regulated process. No foreign money is allowed — Elections Alberta strictly prohibits it. This is not connected to any political party. This is not about overthrowing the government; a recall only affects one MLA. Everything is transparent and regulated. This is simply neighbours and community members exercising their democratic rights.
